フィルムをはじめてから、一応手元に1台はフィルムカメラを持っておきたいわけですが、一時的に手元に1台もフィルムカメラがない時期もありました。そうだね、金欠だねっ。
記憶が前後してますが、コンパクトフィルムカメラに熱を上げてた時期もあり、流行りにのってContax T2、もしくはFUJIFILMのカルディアミニ・ティアラあたりをいじっていた時期（こちらの感想は後日）もありました。ちょうどその頃、機械式カメラを手元からすべて手放してしまった時期がありました。
ご承知の通り、ビョウキなので、こういうときの思考法としては、
「いつ壊れるかわからない（古い）電動式のカメラだけが手元にある・・・怖い・・・壊れにくい機械式カメラが欲しい・・あの金属の塊感が欲しい・・・」。
やっぱりビョウキだと思います。その結論として「やっぱりライカだ！レンジファインダーだ！」という気持ちになり、格安で入手したのが「Leica M2（ライカM2）」でした。（前置きが長い）

かなり格安だったため外観も傷多めで、グッタペルカのイタミこそ少なかったものの、裏蓋のあたりはちょっと浮いていたり、実用ではあれど美品ではありませんでした。またファインターの内側の枠がメンテ不良なのか、少し汚れていました。その一方で、2重像も明確だし、シャッターもぜんぜん問題ない。フィルム室内部もまぁ年代（65年製）を考えれば理解できるスレ具合で、実用にはまったく問題ない状態でした。ある部分では神経質ですが、ボロだけど自分にとって使い勝手最高！という道具も嫌いじゃない。
使用感、フィーリングは当然、それまでに扱ってきたライカそのもの。まったく問題もなければ不足もない。ライカM2は「ライカM3」の廉価版ということですが、フィルムカウンターが窓式ではなくダイヤル式。巻き上げ、レリーズボタンと同軸に金属の輪が設置されており、そこが1コマごとに進んでいく形式。フィルム交換時に自動リセットがされないため、手で0付近まで戻してやる必要がある。忘れるとフィルム撮影枚数がわからなくなるという。
フィルム巻き上げはM3や、最近ではMP、MAなどと同様にノブ式のもの。実は最新のMP、MAがこれを採用しているのもわかる通りノブ式の方が実は使い勝手がよいです。M4～M6（M7もか・・）あたりのクランク式の方がたしかに巻きやすいですが、途中で指はなすとグルグルって戻ってしまってなんか面倒。落としたときの耐久性もノブ式の方が強そうです。その点、カウンター窓がない点も含めて、強度的にかなりタフに使えるのがM2ではないかと思います。
ちょっとした使い勝手の悪さとしては、フィルム装填がスプール式なこと。このあたりはバルナックやM3を経由した方なら通常の「儀式」ってことで許容できるかも。どうしてもここの手間をクリアしたい方は、あまり見かけないため高価ですが、ライカ純正の「ラピットローディングシステム」を入手すれば、M4以降と同様のフィルム装填ができ、手間を緩和できます。一時期これ探し回りました。某、再塗装で有名なお店にきれいな状態のものがありまして、値段問い合わせたりしてましたが、当時は金欠でスルーしていました。
変な話、ライカってハマるとどうしてもいろんな機種をとっかえひっかえしてしまいがちなのですが、シンプルで質実剛健という意味では意外とライカM2で「アガリ」ってなる人もいる気がしています。とにかく過不足がない。作りや操作性にまったくの心配ごとがない。そもそもなぜM2を選んだかというと、フレーム枠に35mmがあること。実はみんな大好きライカM3を使ったことが無いのですが、その理由も広角側のフレームが無いためす。個人的にはフィルムは35mmでラフに撮りたいというのが自分のスタイル。その点、35、50、90mmのフレームありのM2ですと、50mmも使えて自分としては不足がありません。
あと個人的に感じたのはシャッター音がとてもよかったことです。黄金時代のライカM3の直後ですから、ライカの安定感が一番いい時期の製品ということもあるかもしれません。もしくは多少の個体差か。とはいえ美品とはいえない状態で、あの「チャッ」というシャッター音は、自分がきいた中で最もよかった。製品のもつ底力をみた気がします。しかしシャッター音の良さに気づくのは後になってから。後にM4に移行し、それに慣れた頃に気づきました。M4は状態もいいですし、こっちの「パシャ」という音も撮っている感じがして心地よい音です。（後に書きますがライカM-Aの音はもっと「コッ」という感じ。こっちのが情報少ないので気になる方いるんじゃないでしょうか、にやり）
このライカM2を所持していた時期、ちょうど自分のバンドメンバーの女の子が結婚しまして、結婚式ではM2を持ち込んで撮影しました。つくづく自分、伊達男だなと思います(笑)。普段、自己肯定感低すぎなのでこうやってアゲてこ、ねっ。レンズは確かSummilux 50mm（第2世代）と、Summicron 35mm（7枚玉）です（デジタルはM-P240）。人に配慮してあまり挙げられませんが。
旅行などの外出が少なかった時期だったため、近所の散歩程度しか使えていませんでした。過不足もなく、不都合もない幸せな生活。なんで手放してしまったのか・・・そう、金欠だねっ！（泣）。
いやそれだけじゃなかったですが、おそらくこれがライカM4、現在のメイン機材への布石になったのではないかと思いますが、手放すことになります。確か手放したあとNikon F4とかにも手を出してましたが・・・そうやって人生は続く。
